Following the unanimous vote in the House of Commons (28 October 2016) supporting Bob Blackman’s Private Member’s Bill, the Homelessness Reduction Bill, at its Second Reading, Phil McCarthy, CEO of Caritas Social Action Network, said:
“We were extremely pleased to see the Homelessness Reduction Bill pass its second reading in Parliament. We would like to thank all our supporters who signed our e-action encouraging their MP to attend the debate, show their support and secure the Bill’s passage. We support the Bill’s focus on prevention and treating homeless people with dignity. We very much hope that the ‘Code of Practice’ it references will be drafted in time for the third reading and that it will include engagement with the voluntary sector as part of best practice. We know how much our charities have to offer to councils working to keep people in adequate accommodation and we will continue to advocate for partnership work between Government, local authorities and the voluntary sector.”
