Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN) has made the issue of child poverty, particularly the two-child benefit cap, a priority in its advocacy for 2024/2025. The two-child cap, which limits financial support to families with more than two children, has exacerbated poverty for many households across the UK, with over 1.6 million children impacted. In partnership with organisations like St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), Caritas Shrewsbury, and Caritas Salford, CSAN is working to raise awareness and push for policy changes.
A joint submission has been made to HM Treasury ahead of the Autumn Statement 2024, calling for the removal of the two-child cap. CSAN, along with other organisations, is preparing to send a joint letter to the Prime Minister, urging the government to address this issue as a key step towards reducing child poverty.
These efforts align with broader campaigns, such as those led by the Child Poverty Action Group and Save the Children, which highlight the financial and social costs of child poverty and advocate for the abolition of the two-child limit as a cost-effective way to lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty.
