Caritas Social Action Network has made a submission to a consultation by the House of Lords Select Committee on Citizenship and Civic Engagement.
Responding to questions 7 and 9, investigating how civic engagement can be supported and barriers to active citizenship, charities in the Caritas Network highlighted the social impact of volunteering, faith-based groups and mutual support. They identified poverty as the major barrier to engaging with civic structures.
